Emilio Sanfilippo

Emilio M. Sanfilippo is currently post-doc researcher at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) affiliated to the Laboratory of Digital Sciences of Nantes (LS2N). His research area is in the domain of ontology-based knowledge representation concerning both the development of domain ontologies, and general methodologies for their design and exploitation. He is interested in research topics at the intersection between formal (philosophical) ontology and ontology engineering, hence to understand how the theoretical approaches developed in philosophy can support the design of rigorous models for knowledge-based applications. Together with Bob Young (UK) and Yoshinobu Kitamura (Japan), he is guest editor of the Special Issue on (the journal of) Applied Ontology with title “Formal Ontologies in Manufacturing” (to appear next year). Also, he will co-chair the 9th International Workshop on Formal Ontologies meets Industry: The Manufacturing Session, to take place in Nantes (France) next October.
